Private Equity Associate

Pike Street Capital is looking to hire an Associate to join its private equity team in Seattle, WA.  Founded in 2017, Pike Street Capital invests in lower-middle-market companies with leading market positions, strong continuing management and discernible growth drivers.  We target sectors serving professional customers and B2B growth where we have relevant investing and operating experience; including industrial technology, specialty manufacturing, distribution & logistics and business services.  We have enjoyed significant historical success partnering with founder and family-owned businesses in the Western United States. 

Pike Street Capital’s investment criteria include:

  • Investment Amount:     Between $10-$40 million of equity per transaction
  • Transaction Size:           Enterprise value typically $30 million to $100 million
  • Transaction Types:        Control Acquisitions, Recapitalization and Corporate Divestitures

Scope and Responsibilities

The Associate will participate in all transaction functions and portfolio management activities, function as an integral part of a close-knit group of investment professionals, take the lead in financial modeling and industry research, play a key role in the underlying analysis of investment decisions, and assist senior professionals in structuring and negotiating prospective investments in target companies.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Analysis of investment opportunities including financial modeling, valuation and return analysis
  • Market and industry research
  • Due diligence on companies, management, customers, competitors and industries
  • Preparation of materials for Pike Street Capital’s investment committee
  • Assisting in sourcing new investment opportunities
  • Interacting with lender relationships
  • Assisting portfolio company operations, as appropriate


Requirements

Successful candidates will possess:

  • A Bachelor’s degree with honors from a top university or college
  • 2-3 years’ experience as an analyst with a top-tier investment bank
  • Outstanding financial modeling and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated competency in financial statement analysis, business valuation, accounting and finance
  • Demonstrated ability and interest in working with a small group of investment professionals

Tenure

The start date is flexible, but we are targeting Spring/Early Summer 2019.   Associates will be expected to commit for a minimum of two years.  Strong performers will be considered for advancement within the firm.

Scope and Responsibilities

The Vice President will participate in all transaction functions and portfolio management activities, function as an integral part of a close-knit group of investment professionals, take the lead in acquisition diligence, take the lead to analyze and diligence investment opportunities, and play a lead role in structuring and negotiating prospective investments in target companies.

 Responsibilities will include:

  • Traveling to companies to perform on-site due diligence and traveling to various industry conferences.
  • Writing comprehensive investment memoranda setting forth the firm’s investment thesis, identifying investment risks, competitive market assessments and return variance analysis
  • Organizing the firm’s due diligence process including communicating with advisors, organizing/analyzing due diligence materials and managing information flow among relevant transaction participants and capital sources
  • Taking a leadership role in the firm’s marketing activities including deal sourcing with firm relationships, investment bankers, brokers, accountants, attorneys and other professionals
  • Managing and mentoring associates in multiple roles including transaction execution, marketing and other firm activities
  • Performing valuation analysis and recommending capital structures to finance structured buyout transactions and/or recapitalizations with a mix of senior revolving & term debt, mezzanine debt and equity (common & preferred)
  • Participating in raising debt financing for prospective and current portfolio companies
  • As appropriate, assisting portfolio company operations and working with management teams at portfolio companies to execute add-on acquisitions


Requirements

Successful candidates will possess:

  • Unquestionable integrity, credibility, character, good judgment and internal drive
  • An understanding and desire to support the needs of business owners, executives and other business partners in high growth environments
  • 4 - 8 years of prior experience in private equity or mezzanine investing, investment banking, corporate cashflow lending or corporate development & finance related positions at acquisitive corporations
  • Solid knowledge of corporate finance, M&A transactions, accounting, and capital markets
  • Advanced financial modeling skills applicable to corporate finance transactions, including highly-developed Microsoft Excel proficiency with calculations on all levels of leveraged balance sheets
  • Persuasive and critical thinking with an acute ability to communicate in written & verbal form
  • Ability to communicate complex information in easy-to-understand, direct language; comfort with public speaking and interaction with senior business executives
  • Comfort with small office, execution-oriented environment with minimal direct supervision
  • An attention to detail and healthy sense of urgency in getting work done right the first time
  • Educational achievement including an undergraduate degree and preferably an M.B.A. from a top business school


Tenure
